The Bearded Collie, affectionately known as the "Beardie," boasts a rich history rooted in the United Kingdom. Although the historical details are often entwined with legend, it is believed that in the 17th century, the Polish Lowland Sheepdog was introduced to local Scottish dogs. This infusion contributed to the distinctive appearance of the working strain of the breed. Moving into the 20th century, there are indications that the Old English Sheepdog may have been selectively bred to enhance the longer coat characteristic of the typical show Bearded Collie.

In a critical juncture in the breed's history, the Bearded Collie faced near-extinction. The modern-day Beardies trace their lineage back to the Bothkennar kennel, owned by Mrs. Wilison. She began breeding from a small number of remaining working-type Beardies, ensuring the preservation of this delightful breed. Over the latter half of the 20th century, the Bearded Collie experienced a surge in popularity, with a pivotal moment being the Best in Show win at Crufts in 1989 by "Potterdale Classic at Moonhill."

The breed's resilience and charm continue to captivate enthusiasts, and the Bearded Collie Club celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2005. A notable event during this celebration was the victory of "Bumbleridge Original Oka" in the "Most Handsome" category, exemplifying the breed's enduring appeal.
